H went looking in the pantry for a snack and I went to the bathroom. When I came back they were sitting down on the couch to read. I asked them if they grabbed a snack and they said they couldn’t find anything good. I got my sketchbook and made my way over to the couch. H got up and sat in a chair across the room. “new spot?” I said casually. I looked down at the couch. “Oh no, it looks like McGee threw up again, wait no these are chocolate chips.” I started laughing and so did H. They explained that they moved to the other chair because the chocolate chips were spilling out of their pockets onto the couch. I said they could’ve asked and I would’v let them have some. We joked about how they are a terrible chocolate chip thief. They told me about stealing chocolate chips when they were five and bringing the whole bag to their room. I said I related to this because I too was a child deprived of sugar. We agreed this is what happens when parents try to control these things but that it’s hard because too much sugar is bad for you.
