Above the side door that leads to the kitchen hangs a clock made of a piece of wood bent into a circle around a picture of the whole Earth. The numbers are identified by popsicle sticks; the 12, 3, 6, and 9 sticks are longer than the sticks for the other numbers. Below the clock is the door with a rolling privacy screen over the window that never comes down. The door knob is original and there is a skeleton key that always stays inside it. To the left of the door is the built-in cabinets and sink area. On the white tiled countertop directly next to the door is a small ceramic dish with a picture of the whole world painted on it, the dish is for keys. Next to the dish is a small checkerboard ceramic cup that had the laundry room key and a few quarters in it. Next to that cup are two small jars, one squat and one tall filled almost to the top with quarters. There is a cylindrical stainless steel container with a latched top between the jars and the sink where food scraps are put. The sink is built into the corner of the kitchen, there are two windows that meet behind the sink and a little ledge above the basin area. On the ledge are two plants, one with speckled yellow leaves and one that looks a little like a palm tree. Both plants have grass growing in the dirt because the soil was taken from the front yard. Between the plants are sculptures of swans made out of paper, crocheted hearts, a crocheted bunny, and a seesaw made of cardboard. There is a stainless steel over the sink dish rack over the sink. In the container on the left of the rack there are two sponges, one for dishes and one for the counter, there is also a sheet of that scratchy green stuff that is on the back of many sponges. The faucet is large and mate gold, it doesn’t stylistically match the rest of the sink or the kitchen. Next to the faucet is a stainless steel pump for dish soap. The sink has two basins and no disposal. Below the sink is a cabinet for reusable plastic bags, extra sponges, cleaning supplies, rags, and trash bags. To the right of that cabinet is a drawer for kitchen utensils such as can opener, vegetable peeler, small whisk, and bottle opener. Below that drawer is a cabinet that has tupperware, a large salad bowl, and two large serving plates. Above both the drawer, the cabinet, and the countertop is a cabinet that has mugs, drinking glasses, water bottles, and to-go cups. To the left of the sink is a small clock on the ledge of the window. On the counter top there is a yellow ceramic teapot that has a metal cozy on it. Next to that is an espresso damper made of sodder and stones. Then there is a container made of thick blue glass with a latched lid that is filled with coffee grounds. There is a tin can next to that filled with used coffee grounds. There is a Maxim Expres espresso + cappuccino machine next to all that at the end of the tiled countertop. Above these is a cabinet with door pulls made out of ceramic that look like the Earth. Inside the cabinet are plates and bowls of all kinds. Above the plates and bowls are vases. Below the countertop there are two drawers and cabinets. The drawer closest to the sink has eating utensils in it and the drawer next to that has parchment paper, ziplocks, clothespins, and batteries. The cabinets below have a salad spinner, a food processor, a blender, a set of metal bowls, a scale, and a sifter. To the left of this area is a wooden table top fashioned on top of a builtin countertop underneath a window that looks out at the front of the house. On the countertop there is a bowl of ginger and garlic and a spaghetti squash, and another bowl of oranges, lemons and a small fake apple. There are onions and grapefruit loose on the countertop. Behind the bowls, closer to the window is a small glass vase filled with wild sage and a peacock plume, a small ceramic house painted pink and blue, a succulent type plant, and an orchid. To the left of the fruit bowls there is an empty green glass bottle of dry vermouth, a nearly full bottle of bitters, a vintage cocktail shaker with a spout, a blue glass ashtray with a chess knight in the center of it, a checkerboard ceramic vase, another ceramic vase that is white with blue horses on it and a candle sticking out of it, and then a large cylindrical purple candle. To the left of that is an old long slice toaster, a microwave that has dials not buttons, and a bread box on top of that.
