A gave me the advice to sit down and write everything I’ve got without caring if it’s good. I want to try that sometime, but I don’t know exactly what that means or what it would look like. I guess it would be the format I am playing with of the narrator who is working on the screenplay. There are so many things to say. Language is one of the most interesting conundrums of life. Last night in between N and Z on the couch, they were both looking at news stories about the two mass shootings in California in the last three days. N showed us a video of one of the suspects getting taken down by a group of police and civilians. My immediate reaction was turn it off. I didn’t say that, but I felt it. Another thing A said at dinner was that a book is the beginning of everything, he said it in the context of me saying I was interested in writing a book but didn’t think that would be how I would make money, and he said oh no, books are the center of everything, or something like that. The way that a book can change the world is deep because it takes dedication to agree to be changed by a book, you have to read it, and that takes time.
